Facilities
The main area is centred on a large open planned relaxing patio and lounge space that overlooks the Pemba Channel. The bar is perfect for pre dinner drinks with a separate beach bar with sofas and swing chairs serving the beach during the day.
Level with the beach bar the spacious free form swimming pool also overlooks the Pemba Channel.
Every couple of weeks an extravagant Swahili barbeque is provided with everyone sat around one big table by the pool and under the stars.

Manta’s hand-picked team will spoil you with a mouth-watering variety of the largest, freshest locally caught fish and seafood. Most meals are served on the main veranda and your personal service fundi will make sure that you have everything you need during your stay. The well stocked bar serves drinks all day on the beach and throughout the resort with rum cocktails a house speciality.

Manta’s with immaculate white coral private beach sand is a feature in itself and perfect for swimming. At high tide you can snorkel from the water’s edge and spot schools of fish, crabs and cornet fish that swim around in the shallows.

Kipepeo Spa

Diving
The diving around Pemba is nothing else but breathtaking. The untouched coral reef surrounding the entire island makes Pemba one of the top dive sites in the world. Pemba is the perfect place for start your diving adventure. With one of the healthiest coral reef in the Indian Ocean, a water temperature averaging at 26ºC, and the best visibility of East Africa of 30-40 meters almost every day! In combination with these great water conditions Oxygène Pemba Dive Center has everything you need, including a great training pool in two levels, professional dive instructors, and multilingual staff to help you feel free like a fish.

Environment and Local Community
Pemba has been separated from the mainland and Zanzibar for decades, leaving an untouched and pristine island of great beauty and fertility.

The mosaic of forests, swamps, mangroves, hidden beaches and lagoons is scattered with the ruins of mosques and tombs mostly reclaimed by the forest – sites that date back to Arab domination when Pemba was seized by the Sultan of Muscat (Oman) in the 17th century.

Apart from excellent snorkelling and diving, immediately off Pemba’s beaches regular fish catches include rainbow runners, bonito, kingfish, and wahoo. Plenty of dolphins are spotted every day around the island of Pemba, which also holds the worlds oldest preserved rain forest.

The Manta Resort continually seeks to support the conservation of all wildlife of Pemba. The lodge strives to have as little impact on the environment and community as possible. They are involved in several programs to preserve Pemba wildlife and make life easier for their Pembian hosts, helping them with educational programs, healthcare, fresh water pumps and employment opportunities. 2% of all The Manta Resort earnings go directly to support wildlife conservation programs on Pemba.

Pemba Alive
Pemba Alive is an active program supporting the community. Pemba Alive’s aim is to supply the local community with the tools they need to create their own future – on their terms. The Pemba Alive programme is striving to support, help educate their young and help the local people to preserve this unique place for future generations.

Our Opinion
This is a place to truly relax and unwind, gradually reconnecting with nature and what’s truly important in life. The beach is perfect powdery white sand and you can enjoy good snorkelling from the water line. The scuba diving around Pemba is also spectacular with a variety of wonderful dive sites nearby. We saw a pod of dolphins from our veranda and the sunsets were simply stunning. All our alcohol was included and we especially enjoyed making our way through the variety of rum cocktails on offer (which are something of a specialty here).

This is nature at its best and at night you can see the Milky Way so clearly the amount of stars are almost like a cloud across the nights sky. If you want an authentic experience of real Tanzanian hospitality in a remote location of unspoilt natural beauty, you can’t do much better than Manta. It’ll take you a couple of days to really relax into the vibe of the place so you really need to spend a week here at the very least.
